LCHS Track & Field
Why Track & Field? The sport of Track has 16 different events including: sprinting, jumping, throwing and relays. There is some event that everyone can focus on and improve both in condition level and experience the fun of competition.
Coed Team. LC runs a combined program for boys and girls. We practice together, though races and events are separated in the track meets.
No Tryouts. Anyone interested in learning about the sport can give Track a try. Our athletes are very supportive of each other and new athletes are brought along at an appropriate pace, while still practicing with the larger team
Discovery. Track gives athletes an opportunity to explore both physical and emotional strength and development. Though it is a team effort, and in relays 4 athletes compete together, Track is ultimately an individual sport. Athletes prepare to push themselves for a brief moment. At LC, athletes are encouraged to widen their abilities and try multiple events.
Season and Practices. Track officially begins mid-February and runs until the TSSAA State Meet in late May. LC has had several athletes and relays make it to that highest. During the season, we practice most weekdays from 4-5:30 at the track next to LC Middle and the LC pool. (See the calendar on the back) Off-season conditioning is available from December to February usually 3 days per week. Off-season conditioning is encouraged but not mandatory.
Competition. Track meets are multi-team events. We compete in TSSAA Section 1 - AAA which is the largest classification in Track. There is no District or Region. Athletes who qualify based on their season performances qualify directly to Sectional with 30 other schools from upper-east Tennessee.
Can Athletes do other sports and still be on the track team?
Yes. Most Track athletes do more than one sport. Those interested in pursuing AAU for another team may still be part of the LC track program. We make allowances and try to fit the needs of our athletes.
