Infrastructure
Our staff maintains the technology infrastructure of the Lenoir City School System. Services include the repair and maintenance of existing instructional and administrative computer systems throughout the district, instructional and administrative software support, training, implementation of networked services, as well as telecommunications equipment. Each school has its own local area network connected to the wide area network by a 1 Gig fiber connection line. A 1 Gig fiber line provides egress to the Internet for the school system. This bandwidth is shared among the almost 2000 computers currently installed throughout the district, which are a mixture of Chrome, Macintosh and Windows platforms. The purpose of technology support is to provide services that aid in engaging, challenging, and inspiring students.
On-site assistance
LCHS has an on site technician, Alex Malone, who can assist students daily with their computer issues. In addition, we have a Student Help Desk available during 1st, 2nd, and 5th block to help students troubleshoot and borrow loaner devices while their computers are being repaired. The Help Desk is located on the 2nd floor at the side entrace of the library.
In addition to the support services provided by the Office of Instructional Technology the department also has one full time Personalized Learning Facilitators who works with teachers and staff as they integrate technology, project based learning and personalized learning approaches in the classroom. The Chief Technology Officer, Dr. Chris Smallen, welcomes any questions, comments, or concerns you may have regarding technology use and support within the school system.
